to dance cultivates a variety of positive benefits in children. They
develop self-esteem and increased self-worth. They learn respect for
themselves and others. They begin to understand the body mechanics that
enhances coordination, balance and control as well as the many other
healthy benefits of ballroom dance. Though it is helpful to bring a size-appropriate partner to class it is not necessary. Students will rotate partners during class. Parents are welcome to stay and watch in the ballroom throughout the class as long as they are not a distraction to the students in the class. During the 5-week classes, students will learn fundamental material and skills in at least two dance styles in every class. A total of five different dances will be presented during the five-week series. Beginning classes are designed to be a fun introduction to ballroom, swing and latin dances in various styles, including but not limited to Swing, Foxtrot, ChaCha, Waltz, Tango and Salsa. During the final 4-week set of classes, the students's favorite dances will be revisited and expanded. Advanced kids class (requires instructor approval for participation) will be offered in the Fall of 2007, if interest is sufficient to do so. Advanced classes will focuses more on proper technique and choreography. We also provide private lessons, (by appointment and for an additional fee) for performance and competition-oriented children. * NOTE: For children over 100 pounds we recommend participation in our regular evening Adult Group Classes. Student must provide current school student body ID card. You can click this high-lighted link to view the Adult Class Schedule. |
